About University Park
On the Eastern shore of the Willamette River the University Park neighborhood is home to the University of Portland (est. 1901 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places). Though the large student population gives the area a vibrancy not present in other adjacent neighborhoods, this is far from a college town atmosphere.
While some homes line the land adjacent to the river, the rest of the neighborhood features old growth trees and Craftsman, Bungalow, Cottage, Old Portland, Victorian, and Foursquare architecture.
Shopping, restaurants and cafes are plentiful at many locally owned neighborhood shops or in the nearby center at Jantzen Beach, as well as in the surrounding neighborhoods of St. Johns, Arbor Lodge or Kenton.
The neighborhood’s 35-acre Columbia Park provides baseball, softball, and soccer fields, tennis and volleyball courts, indoor swimming, a playground, and a picnic area for active community members.
An easy 10-minute commute for those who work at the Adidas campus, Swan Island Industrial area or in downtown Portland, residents have many travel options including biking, walking, taking the Interstate MAX light rail train or driving.
